Street photography and the casualness?
Umberto Eco’s short essay “About photos made on walls” in 1961 made me reflect on the casualness of photography.
Eco says:…. “capturing a scene with the shot is comparable to the artistic production generated by the random finding of an object that, due to its shape, color, appearance or other, can become an artwork, perhaps reminding the observer of some other already well-known piece of art.”
And wonderfully Eco continues. “…… the cultured and sensitive photographer, attentive to the stylistic trends of contemporary painting, wanders the street and identifies material events of undoubted suggestiveness“. But it does not end here because at this point Eco says the photographer caught with the framing, the angle, the choice of material, the light and the zoom creates the work of art. Great Eco!
Great Mauro!
